Larry Hayden & I are at the 420 CafĂ© in the center of Amsterdam playing a program of seasonal music by Ramsey Lewis, Paul James, Pearl Bailey, Charles Brown, and the great James Brown; celebrating my release from Jackson Prison 39 years ago on December 13, 1971 with selections by the MC-5, Allen Ginsberg, the Up and John Lennon; playing my recording of “friday the 13th” for John Lennon made in London last month with River Styx; and mourning the passing of the one and only James Moody, giant of the tenor saxophone, with three songs by Eddie Jefferson written to the timeless sax solos of Moody.
